Soaps should be kept in cool and dry places. Normally, soap can be kept for a year or longer once saponified and the pH level is neutralized, but sometimes the soap can become rancid. This is all depends on the type of oils used and how the soap is kept. If this happens, you can just cut off the grease spot and use it for your dishes or household cleaning.
